چکیده

Developing a high-yielding and provitamin A-rich maize variety is one of the best approaches to reduce malnutrition increase production, especially in regions where staple food, such as, former Katanga Province Democratic Republic Congo. However, it requires good knowledge combining ability heterosis for grain yield A. Thus, evaluating yield, A content other agronomic traits eight lines, four testers, their 32 hybrids occurred during 2015-2016 2016-2017 cropping seasons. The results showed that genetic parameters related among various F1 influenced all studied except plant height. parental genotypes P6 P10 were suitable improving 100-kernel weight, stature at ear insertion, content. P7, P4, P2 promising content, while genotype P3 was leading yield. Five (P10 × P5, P6, P8, P11 P5) distinction as specific combinations productivity hybrid with desirable revealed helpful combination producing double triple highest potential. Crosses P5 can serve cross P7 P8 presented could benefit future breeding programs develop high elements, alleviating food insecurity malnutrition.

Combining Ability Estimates for Yield Some Traits in Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum L.) by Line×Tester

12 single crosses (F1) achieved by combining four testers and three commercial lines of tomato were evaluated for their response to water deficit stress and the combining ability of yield and some yield components. The layout was split plots according to randomized complete block design with three replications and three irrigation levels (FC, 60%FC and 40%FC). Crossing among lines and test...

Estimation of Combining Ability and Gene Effects in Forage Maize (Zea mays L.) Using Line × Tester Crosses

Abstract Determination of gene effects and combining abilities is a critical stage in maize hybrid breeding. In the present study, 20 S6 lines as female and three S6 inbred lines (K18, K19 and K1264/5-1) as tester were crossed and the resulting  test cross progenies were evaluated in a randomized complete block design with three replications in 2008. During the growing period, several agronomi...

Combining Ability and Heterosis for Yield and Component Characters in Maize

Heterosis and the nature and combining ability was studied in 7 × 7 diallel cross in maize for grain yield and yield contributing characters. The significant estimates of GCA and SCA variances suggested the importance of both additive and non-additive gene actions for the expression studied traits. Preponnderance of additive gene action was noticed for ear diameter and 1000-kernel weight and th...

Combining ability and heterosis for diastatic activity in grain sorghum

Eighty-five sorghum (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) entries including 13 restorer-lines (lines), 5 maintainer-lines (testers), 65 F1 hybrids, and two controls, were grown at Muzarabani, Zimbabwe during the rainy seasons of 1986/87 and 1987/88 to study the combining ability and heterosis for diastatic activity. Grain samples were evaluated for diastatic activity, expressed in Sorghum Diastatic Uni...

Grain iron and zinc density in pearl millet: combining ability, heterosis and association with grain yield and grain size

Genetics of micronutrients and their relationships with grain yield and other traits have a direct bearing on devising effective strategies for breeding biofortified crop cultivars. A line × tester study of 196 hybrids and their 28 parental lines of pearl millet (Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R.Br.) showed large genetic variability for Fe and Zn densities with predominantly additive gene action and n...
